Resumen. El Príncipe Don Carlos es un personaje tratado muchas veces con superficialidad por la historiografía. Hemos de considerar su particular momento histórico, sus problemas genéticos, su educación y las complejas relaciones con su padre. El mito creado en torno a su persona es la base argumental de la ópera Don Carlo, un ejemplo de propaganda política basada en la manipulación histórica de su protagonista.

Abstract. Prince Don Carlos is a character often treated by historians with superficiality. We must consider his particular historical moment, his genetic problems, his education, and the complex relations with his father. The myth created around his person is the main plot of the opera Don Carlo, an example of political propaganda based on a historical manipulation of its protagonist.
